Every fire leaves creosote and soot on the inside of the flue. Over a season that residue builds up in the flue and firebox and can affect how well your system drafts.
A standard sweep clears the accessible buildup mechanically and cleans the firebox, with the work area contained and a HEPA vacuum running. If we see heavier buildup or a condition a standard sweep won't resolve, we explain it before any additional work.

What does a standard chimney sweep include?
Routine mechanical removal of accessible soot and creosote from the flue and firebox, with the work area protected and a HEPA vacuum for containment. A camera is used only when a closer look is needed.
Is a chimney inspection part of the sweep?
No. A standard sweep is a cleaning visit, not a full inspection. If you want a documented evaluation, that is a separate service.
How long does a chimney sweep usually take?
Most visits take about 20 to 40 minutes. Access, the type of system, and how much buildup is present can extend that.
What happens if heavier buildup or damage is found?
We explain what we found and finish the cleaning we can complete appropriately. If a separate step makes sense—such as a chimney inspection or chimney repair—we offer an estimate for it. We don't perform extra work without your approval.
Do I need to prepare the fireplace?
No major preparation is needed. It helps to keep the area right around the fireplace clear, and it is preferable for the fireplace or stove to be turned off and cool before we arrive.

When a standard sweep isn't enough
Sometimes mechanical cleaning alone won't clear heavier or hardened buildup. When that happens, we explain the condition and may recommend separate work, evaluated on its own with its own estimate:
